Adam Powell

Some nights ago I was working with the TV on and this video came up on Headbangers Ball:

I already knew Your Demise and they never caught my attention, but this video got me completely siked. The music is good but it’s nothing from outer space, and the footage seems like the cliché in hardcore: band playing, kids moshing…but the style, the wild scenes and the whole dynamics of the filming take it to a different level. It stands out from the recent stuff I’ve seen.

After some googling, I discovered the director of the clip was Adam Powell. A quick check on his site and I got another surprise: he is also the director of almost all the music videos from Architects, one of my new found favorite bands (or at least one of the few I think doesn’t sound like everything else out there).

The videos below show another side of Adam’s directing. The first is done in a very clean style that connects intrinsically with the music of Architects. The second one is from the last album and reaches again for the flow of the whole sound, creating a raw impression on the viewer and mixing the strong performance of the band with the storyline in perfect percentages.

It’s a great job on both videos and it’s interesting how he manages to progress in style with the sound of the band.
While browsing his site for more works I found out music videos from different artists, showing the versatility of his directing…one that really caught my eye due to it’s concept and simplicity was from this band called The King Blues:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

It transmits a good vibe and makes you smile, like the music itself.

So keep an eye out for good music videos, some of them may actually be directed by Adam Powell.
