William Crump & Alex Pardee

Grabbing a cup of tea and searching the web for some captivating artists is one of my hobbies, specially on those do-nothing weekends.
Before the blogging scene emerged, I used to spend hours on deviantART, but there’s a lot of quality disparity over there, too much copycats also, so it would take too much time to find someone doing really different stuff on that site.
Nowadays I became a bit of a lazy ass, so my bookmarks do the selection. Since I have tons of sites and blogs that really do an excellent work in terms of promoting quality art, I just have to do a round check-up on them and be prepared to be amazed.

A couple of days ago, in one of my weekend insights into my bookmarks, I discovered two very different, yet amazingly skilled  approaches to illustration that caught my eye.

The first one is William Crump. Using simple methods and materials like colored pencils and graphite, he goes into the world of the surreal, creating incongruous images, with dysfunctional layers of colors and techniques that somehow produce an overall pleasing work to the eye.
Being an asymmetric cat myself, I really loved his work. Take a look:

Secondly, and closer to what everyone may know as illustration, I bring you the work of Alex Pardee.

On a first look, Pardee seems to use color just to appeal to the viewer, but on a closer view you really get a sense of overwhelming from his ability to mix patterns and tonalities.

The distortion of elements from pop culture and animated cartoons into the zombie/horror graphism is also one of his main features, where he manages to create what I would call a colorful voyage into the dark world, creating monstrous creatures that look friendly and emotional. On his blog he also reveals other types of work he’s been doing, like the Chadam Animated Series that looks like a huge animated deal coming anytime soon.
